Boingboing guest blogger Gareth Branwyn featured this incredible papercraft artist today: Jen Stark. I hadn’t heard of her before, but her work is absolutely stunning. It’s a little different from the papercraft that I showed in the past– this is purely sculptural, whereas the other work typically mimes or replaces real objects. As such, it’s much more abstract, but it’s also incredibly beautiful. Here’s a stop-motion video she made with her work (two of my favorite art forms! Combined!). Stark also has a WordPress blog here.
There’s another clip on her website, as well. For more of an explanation of her as an artist and her work, the Boingboing post also has a video interview from Art Street.
Nick is playing Ratatat’s self-titled album as he studies, so in solidarity, I’m going to showcase some of Ratatat’s remixes tonight. The remixes are somewhat different from ordinary mashups, since Ratatat takes the vocal tracks and writes their own musical track as accompaniment (hence why they’re called remixes, instead). They’re ingeniously done, however, and certainly fall into the same general category.
The first track takes Notorious B.I.G. by himself.
Notorious is back in the second track, but this time with Jay-Z’s help.
The final track features Z-Ro, Devin the Dude & Juvenile.
